Pupil Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

What is PPG?

The government has allocated money to schools to help children from lower income families achieve to the best of their abilities. This funding is called a Pupil Premium Grant or PPG.

If you qualify, your child or children can receive free school meals and reduced costs towards some after school activities (e.g. Sports Clubs) or curriculum enrichment opportunities. If you are registered for Pupil Premium, you will also get help with the cost of day trips and residential trips as the school can cover your Smarter Way to Pay contribution. You can also request financial help with the cost of your child's school uniform.  This additional funding allows us to provide an even better education for your child through the purchase of additional resources or staff to support learning.

Are you Eligible?

If you are in receipt of any of the following benefits then you can check your eligibility using the following free checker:

  • Free School Meal Eligibility Checker (lgfl.org.uk)
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

  • Children of Armed Services personnel

Please contact us if you think your child or children may be eligible.

How are PPG pupils supported in our school?

All PPG funding, alongside funds from the main school budget that supplement these, are used to ensure equity of experience and outcomes for the most disadvantaged pupils with their peers.

PPG funding is broadly spent in three ways at Winnersh Primary School:

  • academic support
  • school and curriculum experience
  • enrichment opportunities

Here are a few examples of what this looks like for the most disadvantaged pupils in our school. Please be aware that this is not an exhaustive list and support for disadvantaged pupils is reviewed on an individual basis and rooted in research.

Examples of academic support:

  • targeted TA and teacher support in class
  • bespoke curriculum (if appropriate)
  • booster classes
  • specific interventions
  • reading support with a trained ABC reading volunteer
  • pre-reading or teaching of topic-specific vocabulary

Examples of school and curriculum experience:

  • support with funding of uniform
  • ‘Smarter Way to Pay’ contribution funded (this is used to pay towards workshops and trips)
  • resources/costumes provided (if appropriate)
  • family liaison worker support
  • curriculum resources provided (if appropriate)

Examples of enrichment opportunities:

  • one funded school club per term
  • contribution towards private music lessons
  • encouragement to take on roles and responsibilities in the school community: librarian, Rotakid, playground pal, canopy club leader, house ambassador.
  • encouragement to take part in wider community events e.g. poetry competition, choir events etc.

Our pupil premium strategy is outlined for 3 years but is reviewed annually.
