Our week is starting in a very exciting way, with a visit from Jonathan’s Jungle Roadshow.  The children will have an opportunity to make a range of creatures from the rainforest and if they want to, they will be able to hold some of them too!  This will help us to go on to write a non-chronological report about the rainforest.


Our focus will be on telling the time on an analogue clock.  They will be aiming towards being able to tell the time at quarter past.


Mrs Basher’s group will be looking at spelling the Year 2 common exception words.

Mrs Bellman’s group will be practising the alternative spellings for the ow and ng sounds. 

Mrs Atkins’ group will continue to practise writing CVC, CCVC and CCVCC words, for example, cat, frog, truck.

Topic – We Are Explorers

The children will apply what they learn from Jonathan.  They will be tasting fruits that can be found in the rainforest and then looking at the work of environmental artist, Andy Goldsworthy.  Using natural materials found on our school grounds, the children will create some natural art.

We have two classes called Amber and Sunset. The teachers are Mrs Bellman, Mrs Davies, Mrs Gordon and Mrs Vincent.  Also working in the classes as Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Robbins and Mrs Atkins.

Click below for the link to our curriculum map.  We will be teaching six main topics this year.  Each will start with a ‘Big Bang’ to excite the children for the learning to come and will end with a celebration of their achievements.  This may be sharing work with another year group, a celebration class assembly or a special event.


We aim to change your child’s reading book three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  We rely on the kindness of our parent volunteers to do this job for us, so there may be occasions when the books are not changed. If this happens here are some ideas of what you could do at home instead:

  • re-read the book that they have been given
  • write a book review about the text
  • write about one of the characters (if it is a story) encouraging them to use adjectives
  • respond in writing to comprehension questions that you have asked eg Why do you think Goldilocks broke into the Three Bears house?
  • Read a book from your home library or on the computer

Each class will have two PE sessions a week which will be on Thursdays and Fridays. One of these sessions will be outside so your child will need trainers and warm clothing such as a track suit.

Homework will be given on a Friday each week and returned the following Friday, unless there is a change to the timetable.  Your child will receive a spelling sheet where they will explore a given spelling pattern.  We do not test the children on these spellings but would like them to write sentences in their homework book.  To help the children practise their maths skills they will take part in the ‘Buzz Time’ challenge every Friday.  They will be challenged on number bonds and timestables.
