Autumn Term – Second Half

Monday 30th October 2017 – Tuesday 19th December 2017

Welcome back! We hope you have all had a great half term, and the children feel refreshed to begin a fantastic new term.

We have fun and exciting activities planned this term including:

  • a trip to the Reading Museum - 8th November 2017,
  • building their own aqueducts,
  • parents drop in session – Wednesday 1st November 2017 from 3:00. Parents are welcome to come and see your child’s books and share a positive comment about your child’s amazing work.
  • taking part in a Christmas assembly- 12th December 09:00 - to which all parents are welcome!.
  • Malachite class have their class assembly on Wednesday 22nd November 2017
  • Christmas lunch and
  • A Christmas party!!

In English this term, the children will be learning how to write a Historical fiction story, Instructional writing and exploring the different forms of Poetry based around our Roman Topic.

In Maths this term it’s all about geometry, data and fractions! The children will be exploring 2-d and 3-d shapes, quadrilaterals, triangles and exploring their properties.

We continue our Roman topic this term, learning about Roman inventions, weaponry, Roman Gods and Roman way of life. The children are certainly enjoying this Topic and are excited about our trip to the Reading Museum.

A few other reminders:

  • Please can the children be reminded to have a working blue handwriting pen for the term,
  • Children need to bring their reading books and reading record books to school every day!
  • P.E is on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Homework is given out every Friday and needs to be completed for the following Friday.

We are looking forward to a festive, fun and full on Term!

Hello and welcome to Year 4!

We have a very exciting year ahead and will be looking at various topics including Ancient Romans, India and Ancient Greece. In science the children will be learning all about the digestive system and the importance of electricity, how it works, how to be safe and exploring different circuits.

Learning Environment

Our classrooms are designed to encourage and support learning. Look out for the cosy reading corner, Growth Mindset displays and encouraging behaviour chart. Keep a look out for your work being put on display! Will it make the Star work wall?

Homework

This year the children will receive an English writing or spelling task alongside a maths task every Friday to be completed for the following Friday. Please continue to learn the Year 3/4 spellings as the children will be tested termly. Click here for a copy of those Year 3/4 words.

Extra Information

Children should be reading to an adult at least three times a week. Please record in your child’s reading record book when they have done this! Just a quick comment or signature will be fine. As they become more independent in their reading, they are encouraged to write their own comment.

We will continue to have a weekly Buzz Time challenge. As they achieve each stage they shall receive a certificate.

P.E.

P.E will be on a Monday and a Wednesday. The children are expected to have their P.E kits in every Monday along with suitable shoes and hair ties for long hair.
