Notice Board
19th June

Year 4 had a great week, last week, with lots of physical activities, trying out new foods, recipes and creating our healthy recipe books. Hopefully, the children will be trying out some of their recipe ideas at home! Thank you to all the parents who supported sports day. The children did very well despite the extreme temperatures.

In English this week, the children will be covering discussion texts. They will learn how to compare and contrast both sides of an argument to produce a balanced structure.

In maths this week, we will be revising a number of areas to consolidate our learning so far this year.

In science we will be looking at our new topic: ’Changing States.’ We will be looking at how materials can be changed from one state to another by heating or cooling.

Continuing our exploration of Ancient Greece, we will continue looking at Greek warfare, this week finding out about the Battle of Marathon.

Please can we remind parents that all children are required to write in blue pen in their books. There are several children who are regularly coming to school without pens. These can be purchased from reception and should be clearly labelled with the child’s name.

Thank you,

Mrs Warke, Mrs Woollard, Miss Emslie and Miss Rattue

Hello and welcome to Year 4!

We have a very exciting year ahead and we’ll be looking at lots of different topics! Our first topic is looking at the Ancient Egyptians. We will be doing an in depth study of the Egyptians and will look at their way of life and the culture of this time. This term, History, Geography and Art are all going to be taught under the one topic.

Homework

The homework policy is currently being updated so to start with, your child will be given a piece of English and a piece of Maths homework each Friday which they are to complete and return the following Friday.

As a school, we will be trying out a new style of spelling using a new programme. Further information will be given. But please continue to learn the Year 3/4 spellings, which you will be tested on termly to see how you get on. Click here for a copy of those Year 3/4 words.

Extra Information

PE kits should come in on a Monday and go home on a Friday. Games will be taken by a Sports Coach on a Tuesday afternoon.

Children should be reading to an adult at least 3 times a week. Please record in your child’s reading record when you have done this! Just a quick comment and signature will be fine. We understand that the children will become far more independent readers and they are also encouraged to sign and write their own comment.

We will continue to have a weekly Buzz Time challenge, testing your child on their times tables. They will work through the different levels and get a certificate at the end of each stage.
