Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
We have two classes - Sunflower and Buttercup.
Our teachers are Mrs Way and Mrs Champ.
Our Learning Support Assistants are Miss Street, Mrs Ricketts and Mrs Little.
We are proud of our caring, creative and happy environment where all children are valued equally and encouraged to achieve their full potential. Over the course of the year, we will support our children in developing their:
- Curiosity
- Independence
- Resilience
- Confidence
- Love of Learning
Children develop their learning and skills through exploratory play opportunities during exploring time and by working in small, focused groups with adults. Exploring time allows children to engage in free-flow independent play and planned exploration opportunities within the indoor and outdoor learning environments. Through play children develop language skills and creativity, social and intellectual skills and learn to regulate their emotions. Teachers plan and resource additional enhancements in order to provide a challenging environment to support and extend the learning of key concepts linking to the Early Years Foundation Stage. Teachers take account of children’s interests and developmental next steps when planning activities. Children have the opportunity to self-select resources, practise new ideas and skills, take risks, show imagination and solve problems on their own or with others in an environment in which they feel safe and secure.
There is a clear focus on developing a love of learning, independence and resilience through these first hand play experiences. Teachers and Learning Support Assistants support children during exploring time through observation and appropriate intervention through questioning and reflection to support and extend learning and development. Children also take part in planned small group adult-lead Literacy and Mathematics activities during exploring time to support the development of reading, writing and Maths.
We have our weekly PE session on Wednesday morning with Mrs Sidhu. The children really look forward to their PE sessions and cannot wait to 'wow' the adults with their amazing skills. Please could PE kits be named as items of clothing can go missing very easily. We also use 'Cosmic Yoga' to provide an additional PE session to help children develop their core strength.
Reading books will be changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday by a member of the Foundation Stage Team. Please could you write a comment and sign the book when you have read with your child. We will also send out home learning challenges every two weeks on Google Classroom. These are fun activities to complete at home in order to support your child's understanding of key concepts being taught in school.

Baseline Assessment
The reception baseline assessment, or RBA is a short, interactive and practical assessment of your child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills when they begin in school. It will be undertaken with your child’s class teacher and will measure your child’s progress from Foundation to year 6. The data will only be accessed by the DFE. The teacher will be able to spend quality 1-1 time with your child, getting to know them and if they need any further support in certain areas. If you wish to read further on the Reception Baseline, then you can find a useful parent booklet here:
