Welcome to Year 1
We have two classes – Sky and Ocean
Our Teachers are Mrs Queenborough and Mrs Way.
Our Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Gilbert, Miss Barclay.
We work as a team so your child may be taught by any or all of us at points through the year, but generally Mrs Queenborough and Mrs Gilbert are based in Sky Class while Mrs Way, Miss Barclay are based in Ocean Class.
Year One is a really important year where children move from the Early Years curriculum into Key Stage One of the National Curriculum. This transition is really important to us and we are careful to ensure that the children start the year with some informal learning through continuous provision and small group activities, moving towards more formal lessons as the year goes on so that they are ready for the challenges of Year Two by the summer term
Your child will enjoy some exciting and adventurous topics during their time with us, all designed to build their confidence in tackling the core skills of reading, writing and maths, while keeping an emphasis on curiosity, creativity, practical activities and fun.
Our PE days in Year One are Thursday and Friday and we ask that children come to school wearing their PE kits on these days. Reading books will be changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please could you sign the book when you have read with your child. Children should bring in their reading books and reading records every day please. Later in the term we will send home short phonics tasks and Buzz Time maths skills to practise for their home learning.
We hope that children gain independence, confidence and maturity during their time with us! Should you have any questions about our learning please don’t hesitate to ask one of the team.
