Welcome to Year 3
We have two classes Ruby and Carnelian
Our Teachers are Mrs Spiller and Mr Howell
Our Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Conning, Mrs Graham and Mrs Westwood
We have an additional teacher who covers PPA and that is Mrs Bennett. As a team, we strive to provide the children with some great experiences whilst they are with us in Year 3. We have planned an exciting curriculum that is delivered through topics such as The Egyptians and Light and Dark. This builds upon all that they have learned in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, and is rooted in learning and remembering key facts. It is the final year of our Lower Phase and this comes with some responsibilities – we expect them to be role models for the younger children. As the year progresses, the children will become more independent learners and will develop their resilience so that they are prepared for the next phase of their school life.
PE is on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Children should bring their PE kits in to school on a Monday and take them home on a Friday. They should have suitable footwear so that they can run safely outdoors.
Now the children are in Year 3, they are entrusted to change their reading books themselves. They are allowed to do this on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. An adult will check they are reading the correct books.
The children are given homework on Wednesdays. They will be given times tables to practise at home so that they are ready for their Multiplication Masters test the following week. They are also given a piece of homework that will be linked to the learning that they have been doing in class. Once a term they will also be given the challenge of a larger project such as making a volcano or creating a pharaoh’s mask.
